‘It is a privilege for
the Emirates Cricket Board to host the ICC Six
Nations Challenge UAE 2004 cricket tournament’ said
Abdulrahman Bukhatir, President of Emirates Cricket
Board, while announcing details of the Six High
Performance associate member nations cricket
tournament, scheduled from 29th February to 6th
March 2004.
The event is of very high importance and is becoming
a major feature in the ICC cricket calendar. This
tournament which is a testament to the ICC High
Performance Programme, has benefited many of the
leading Associate countries. Canada, Holland,
Scotland, Namibia, USA and UAE are the teams
participating in the forthcoming Six Nations event.
“The winning team will qualify for a spot in the ICC
Champions Trophy 2004 alongside the Test nations in
England in September 2004, what an incentive’,
Bukhatir concluded.
A total of fifteen matches are being played at the
three venues - DCC1 and DCC2 in Dubai and the
Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Tim Anderson, ICC Development Officer, East Asia
Pacific, is the Event Manager of the tournament
along side Bob Woolmer, the ICC High Performance
Manager as member technical committee. International
test umpire, Darrell Hair is the Tournament Referee,
while each participating country has nominated an
umpire to officiate during the match. The matches
will be played with coloured clothing and white
ball.
Khuram Khan is the Captain of the UAE cricket team.
Former ODI England Test player Douggie Brown is
playing for Scotland while West Indian Clayton
Lambert is representing USA.
The USA team will be the first to arrive on Monday
and they will play couple of friendly matches
against the local clubs.
Scotland and Canada
too will be playing a game each prior to the event. |
