Press Release

‘It is a privilege for the Emirates Cricket Board to host the ICC Six Nations Challenge UAE 2004 cricket tournament’ said  Abdulrahman Bukhatir, President of Emirates Cricket Board, while announcing details of the Six High Performance associate member  nations cricket tournament, scheduled from 29th February to 6th March 2004.

The event is of very high importance and is becoming a major feature in the ICC cricket calendar. This tournament which is a testament to the ICC High Performance Programme, has benefited many of the leading Associate countries. Canada, Holland, Scotland, Namibia, USA and UAE are the teams participating in the forthcoming Six Nations event.

“The winning team will qualify for a spot in the ICC Champions Trophy 2004 alongside the Test nations in England in September 2004, what an incentive’, Bukhatir  concluded.

A total of fifteen matches are being played at the three venues - DCC1 and DCC2 in Dubai and the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Tim Anderson, ICC Development Officer, East Asia Pacific, is the Event Manager of the tournament along side Bob Woolmer, the ICC High Performance Manager as member technical committee. International test umpire, Darrell Hair is the Tournament Referee, while each participating country has nominated an umpire to officiate during the match. The matches will be played with coloured clothing and white ball.

Khuram Khan is the Captain of the UAE cricket team. Former ODI England Test player Douggie Brown is playing for Scotland while West Indian Clayton Lambert is representing USA.

The USA team will be  the first to arrive on Monday and they will play couple of friendly matches against the local clubs.

Scotland and Canada too will be playing a game each prior to the event.
